ROTY Tracker

We have 33 members who are new to the league. Some have made immediate impact on their rosters, others still waiting on a chance to start and prove themselves. This list acknowledges the top rookies thus far. Only week 1 stats are taken into consideration. This list will be updated next week when week 2 stats are in.

FYI, a VFL rookie is defined as someone who’s in their first season in THIS VFL. Previous experiences from either the EFL or OG VFL are ignored in this.

If you are a rookie and feel these stats are better than the list, please DM me on discord and I can verify, I believe my rookie list is 95% accurate as I did a comparison with S1 FAs and S2 FAs

VFL Presents: Ghost of VFL

Before the life of the VFL was… The VFL. This league ultimately extends all the way back to 2011 where the young minds of Fatal attack and others thought it was a good idea to create a 3v3 league. This league was housed on a website called LeagueArena as some of you know. For those that are new to this league, I would like to welcome you on a history lesson. From Madden 11 to Madden 25, the VFL was a league that lasted 14 seasons long. After Madden 25, EA decided to pull the plug on Online Teamplay and put more focus into MUT. 3 years later, MUT finally released a gamemode in which players could play a 3on3 within MUT. When MUT Squads became a thing, we tested the idea of running a league where teams competed in a MUT environment. This was housed under the company called Elite Team Play which in that era was called the EFL.

During the last 10 years, the league has seen many players come and go. However, with the revival of the league, I wanted to focus this article on players that played in the Old VFL that are currently in the league. These 5 individuals had great success in the old league but the question is, can they continue their legacy after many years of absence? This list has no order.

Hutchx81 aka TheHutch07 set the standard of a successful owner in the early days. You would compare him as the Vince Lombardi of the VFL. This guy season after season was able to put together a competitive roster every year. He presented ownership well and what I would consider a pioneer of the VFL when it first started.

Season 2 Draft Grades (Players and Team)

Firstly, I would like to say congrats to all owners and players on draft night. It’s one of the most exciting parts of each season. It was good to hear the draft went smoothly so thank you Ice the man for broadcasting, and the team he had with him last night.

Without further ado, here are my grades in terms of the draft. I will be including their pick from the team draft as well. This is solely my opinion. Each first rounder receives a unique MUT Draft edition card at the end of this article.

Vikings

Team selection – C-

Player selection – B

Aries and his team drafted a solid player squad. Most of the players seem to be veteran players from the old VFL days. The issue I see with this team is the team selection. I understand there is a talent for the RB, WR, and defense. But I strongly feel the QB position is the foundation of a team. If you select a team with a poor QB, players that play the positions would not be attracted to play for that team. Orlando was a given first overall pick since he is a QB. Solid pick-up as well.

Rams

Team selection – B

Player selection – A-

The Rams did very well in terms of drafting player talent. 60% of the starting lineup played together on a playoff-caliber team last season so I do expect good things with this team. I think Realest at number 2 was solid but I think a QB should have been selected here. The Rams have addition with Von miller on defense and given that there was a patch for defense, this team may be difficult to score on as well.

Browns

Team Selection – B

Player selection – B-

Defeet at number 3 was a good choice given he was a QB. Husky has a good reputation from last season, JAD is a good use as well. Overall the team did solid in the draft my only concern is where all the pieces will fall. I heard Baker Mayfield is a struggle to use which is why I have the team grade a B.

Chiefs

Team selection – B+

Player selection – B-

While we patiently wait for a badge update soon, I still consider the chiefs to be a great team to use overall. In terms of the player draft, I’m shocked I went number 4 due to not doing any tryouts. However, this team had all QBs going into the draft so it was good they picked a WR/DL. I have talked to everyone on the team and I believe Rusty and his team drafted a balanced competitive team that seems to be cultured well.

Packers

Team selection – B

Player Selection – A-

Most of this roster is a returning roster of the Season 1 champions. Key players are missing like JP but I think this team can be very competitive throughout the season. The addition to drafting Marc is solid and he is a good QB. They have a gem in TC by the name of Carnage who was an owner last season so I can expect him to work his way up a VFL roster this season. The packers are overall a good team to use and with the next rating update, this team should get a healthy boost in overalls.

Bills

Team selection – A-

Player selection – B+

Bills are arguably one of the best teams to take so Sig and his management did well in selecting them. If they get the right subs in on defense, it’ll be a tough team to score on. Most of the WB clan is back together again and they competed in the Superbowl with the Raiders so I do expect good things with this squad. Woodhy on the TC gives this team depth at the DL position. They did draft a rookie QB in the first round so expectations are high for this player. He is the first rookie to be drafted and the only rookie who took in the first round.

Buccaneers

Team selection – A

Player selection – B+

I think the Bucs are the best team to use this season. Almost every position is great, especially on offense. Hogcrazy was their first-round selection which is an ideal pick in the later round. DJrage, iaasc, and Radio are all solid pickups given that they placed a max bid on Kuhrow and couldn’t select the rest of their team in round 5.

Cardinals

Team selection – A

Player selection – C

Beatdown and his management did great in the team selection; not so well in the player selection. No offense to childplease but I had him the sixth-best QB on the draft board with better QBs available to pick. I understand the first round needed to be a QB but many X factor skilled players were available. I predicted child to go in the third round. Farah was a solid pick-up, Likewise with icetheman and ECrosstheBoss. They do have depth in TC with whodat and Mike.

Season 2 Draft by the numbers

The purpose of this article is to provide a general overview of the amount of Free Agents and provide a statistical point of view that owners and players may find useful for the upcoming VFL draft. The draft takes place on 11/3/2021. Stay tuned for a time and the draft will be broadcasted like last year. Without further ado, let’s get right into this.
There are a total of 87 Free Agents (as of 10/28/2021) coming into the draft. All but 3 players have filled in their positions so I will be excluding them from these stats.

There are 72 VFL roster spots available for season 2 (8 teams @ 9 players (3 lines)). Take away the Owner and GM spots (16), you’re looking at 56 roster spots. 31 players will not be selected in the draft but rather drafted in TC. This is roughly 36% of available FAs.
From an offensive standpoint we have:
– 20 Quarterbacks
– 38 Running Backs
– 26 Wide Receivers
From a defensive standpoint we have:
– 25 Defensive Linemen
– 28 Linebackers
– 31 Defensive Backs
Free agents coming into the draft. Assuming that teams draft their team needs with having 3 players at each position, it is assumed there will be:
– a shortage of QBs in the draft
– a surplus of 12 RBs
– a surplus of 2 WRs
– a surplus of 1 DL
– a surplus of 4 LBs
– a surplus of 7 DBs
when the draft concludes and TC players will then be assigned.

However, this is not taking into account the positions that each team has at management (Owner/GM).

From the data above, it is assumed that these position combos are considered the most valuable in terms of a high chance of being drafted by a team:
QB/DL (most valuable)
QB/LB
QB/DB
WR/DL
WR/LB
WR/DB
RB/DL
RB/LB
RB/DB (least valuable)

By looking at the team’s management positions:
– 11 are QBs
– 2 are RB’s
– 3 are WR’s
– 3 are DL
– 5 are LBs
– 8 are QBs

After taking into account management positions, it is assumed there will NOT be a shortage of QBs since management is typically QBs. Since WR’s and DL are the least filled positions in management, I would consider this to be the most valuable position combo going into the draft.

After being given this data, players and management can use this to help them make decisions for themselves and their team. As a player, if your goal is to get on a VFL roster, you are more likely to get drafted if you’re a WR/DL versus a RB/DB. QB’s are still considered valuable as well.

Interview with Brownies Goodell

It’s Outaker here and I’m back with another article. I wanted to take some time to interview our new commissioner. The purpose of this article is to spread overall player awareness about upcoming news and changes.

Do you expect the season to grow exponentially compared to Season 1? If so, why do you think that? Grow? not yet, I think season two is going to be the foundation for what’s to come in the VFL, We have so much potential here and we have to live up to it. Growth will come but we need to get underneath ourselves before we start a growing process

What are some structural changes that will benefit the league in season 2? (this could be staff, the way we handle processes, etc). In season one you tried to do it all alone, you put so much into this league and I believe at times the league took you for granted and it came back to bite us all. This season we are moving to a Board of Directors style leadership with Myself, WB850, Hog, and Kurow. I believe these changes will be what is best for the league and will show what kind of league this can be when the burden doesn’t lie solely on one person’s shoulders to carry.

What are some changes to the rulebook that you expect to see in Season 2? I can’t say much because this is not just my decision but I do expect a thinner rulebook with a more firm fist of punishments. these rules will not have a gray area. While there will be fewer rules than last season the severity of breaking these rules will be greater.

Do you have a timeline for team picks, the player draft, and the start of the new season? Team picks are currently ongoing, the player draft will be scheduled shortly after the Superbowl and season two is looking to kick off November 7th

How long will Season 2 be? Season two will be 4 weeks just like last season but we will transition to a 9 game weekly scheduled with each line playing 3 games instead of 4. We are currently discussing how we want to handle the upcoming holidays and are doing our best to schedule around that as best we can.

What are your goals for Season 2? The biggest goal is consistency, we need to be consistent in everything we do. That isn’t just from a management and staff side. we all have to be more consistent this season and do our best to show what this league can accomplish.

How has the transition from BOG to commish been? Lol well, it’s been different. at first, I had zero interest in doing this, I saw how it got to you, and with me having a family, career, and the military it hasn’t been an easy decision to do this. With the help of the owners, the staff, and the other directors of the league I believe I have put together a great team to make sure we carry this league together. I couldn’t do it without them.

Any shoutouts or announcements that you would like to address? Maybe one, this season will be the most important season of the VFL in almost 8 years. We need to do this together and that means signing up, getting your buddies to sign up, getting the word out there that this is the place to play Madden teamplay on XBOX Series S/X. The sky is the limit with this league but our best marketing strategy is for every person in this league. Let’s get the word out, lets get some footage made and posted on Youtube, Twitch, Twitter, Reddit anywhere that madden has a community we should be pushing that community to check us out. This will be a season to remember and I promise everyone that.
