Salary Cap by the Numbers

$425.5 million. This was the overall league cap after the team bidding was complete. This is the sum of all 12 teams available cap for the player bidding that occured over the weekend. 

With the conclusion of the player bidding, we are given even more data on the value of players and their positions. 

The overall value of each offensive position goes as follow:

Quarterback – $197 million

Runningback – $91.5 million

Wide Receiver – $62 million

Nearly 50% of the league cap was spent on Quarterbacks whereas runningbacks cost about 20% and WRs were about 15%

 

The overall value of each defensive position goes as follow: 

Linebacker – $165.5 million

Defensive back – $146.5 million

Defensive Linemen – $40 million

Nearly 40% of the league cap was spent on LBs whereas DBs cost about 34% and DLs were about 9%

If you’re a QB/LB in this league, congrats, youre the most sought after position combination in the league. Followed by;

S6 Predicted Value vs Actual Value

Okay, I’ll admit, my initial article was completely off compared to how the actual bidding went. One of the main reasons was due to more players going extremely expensive which forced alot of players to take a paycut (see the 500k pool vs the 20m pool for example). 

I think in all, I got 10 predictions right out of 113 players I had to valuate (9%) lol. But it is what it is. Be on the lookout for a salary cap article.

Season 6 Player Value Bids

It’s been widely asked for and its finally here. Everyone wants to know their projected value going into the season considering this is the first time in which we have turned away from the traditional drafting process to a bidding process. There are some key things to consider:

  • The average available cap space per player per team is around $5M. I assummed most owners will use most of their cap to complete their roster. On Average, 35M is the cap space across all teams and each team needs to fill 7 roster spots. This has helped me in terms of placing players in each corresponding bucket. 
  • These values are based on my assumptions only. No one really knows a players market value until the draft is live. It’s all about a teams willingness to pay. Supply and demand folks. 
  • I typically valued QB the most, then RBs given their versatility along with how good the running game is with this Madden, then WRs. I couldn’t keep track of DCs since there isnt a list. So its possible I may have placed DCs below their market value. 
  • I am aware that this list may screw the player market since no one really knows a players value and that’s okay! Feel free to use this as a way to strategically build your team owners.
  • Typically rookies are valued lower due to no history with the league, and limited tryouts. 
  • I’ve took into account a players history with the league, previous achievements and rumors from around the league as well as my personal experience with playing with that player. 
  • The cap buckets goes as follow; 500k, 1M, 1.5M, 2M, 2.5 to 4.5M, 5 to 7M, 7.5 to 9.5M, 10-14.5M, 15-19.5M, and 20M+

Rookie of the Year Race – Preseason

As of 8/12/22, we have 20 rookies who plan on making an impact in Season 6. I expect this list to grow especially after the game drops on Tuesday and Owners are trying out players.


In the past few seasons, the league has had difficulty with tracking Rookies and their season performances where there were no ROTY awards. With the help of this article, I plan on evaluating Rookies and their performances every week to help bring back this prestigious honor.


Since we have no data thus far, I will be ranking these players by their history with previous leagues or how I’ve evaluated them. This list will change every week when I am given data to analyze these players.

Alrighty, the list that most of you all have been waiting for. It’s the last top 10 list coming from this series where we defined the top 10 players from each 6 positions.

Time to take a look at the top 10 QBs going into Madden 23 (assuming they continue their career as QB and sign up for S6). The requirements and grading goes as follow:

  • a minimum of 2 seasons played at that position
  • Pass YDs, Pass TDs, Pass INTs, QBR, and Pass % where the criteria of ranking these QBs. NOTE: these metrics are looked at on a season average; NOT total EXCEPT % and QBR. the % and QBR are just the total number from their VFL career because if I were to take for example the average of 75% over 4 seasons, It would’ve been 25% which isn’t correct. 

The formula is straight forward. I took a players total Passing Yards/ the # of seasons they played in. Same along with Pass INTs, and Passing TDs. You can find each players season averages below the image.

  • a minimum of 2 seasons played at that position

Top 10 DL headed into Madden 23

Another day, another top 10 list. This time we look at the top 10 DL going into Madden 23 (assuming they continue their career as DL and sign up for S6). The requirements and grading goes as follow:

  • a minimum of 2 seasons played at that position
  • ONLY sacks and TFLs were taken into consideration since FFs and SFTYs were a rarity

The formula is straight forward. I took a players total career sacks / the # of seasons they played in. Same along with TFLs. You can find each players season averages below the image.

VFL Madden 23 Cover

A couple of weeks ago, I asked the Discord ‘who in their opinion was the most dominant Offensive player and Defensive player’ throughout Madden 22. I ended up getting a lot of feedback about two particular players in which I decided to put on the Madden 23 cover for the next madden installment that drops next month where the League kicks off its 6th season. Congrats to Abyss and Realest. Both have excelled at their position throughout the last 5 seasons and will be without a doubt future HOFer’s in the league.
